ACADEMIC    PROFILE

The main issue that I study for many years is the concept of the subject and the relations between the subject and the other in psychoanalysis and western philosophy. This issue interests me both from the philosophical and theoretical point of view and from its clinical and practical implications. Some of these implications concerns questions regarding the curative component of psychodynamic psychotherapy,  the patients-therapist relations, etc. Out of this interest I came to investigate relational psychoanalysis, focusing mainly on the theories of Thomas Ogden, Emmanuel Ghent, Michael Eigen, Steven Mitchell, Jessica Benjamin, Philip Bromberg, Donnel Stern and Jody Davies.  One of my main interests in this field was the attempt to capture the subjective dimension of the human existence together with the intersubjective dimension, and I published few papers in this subject (see publication list). I am also teaching these subject in the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program of Tel Aviv University in the last five years, and in many other places.  This area of interest led me to be the scientific editor of translation of the books of two of the leading psychoanalysis today, Michael Eigen and Thomas Ogden.

These subjects were also the main issue of my PhD dissertation, which compared the conception of subject-object relations in Freud, Winnicott and the intersubjective approaches, and investigate the influence of the Hegelian thought on the development of these conceptions.the Use of Hegel in this work was aimed to cope with some problems that arises within the intersubjective approaches in psychoanalysis. The main effort was to develop a triple view of the human existence which dialectically moves between the subjective, objective and intersubjective dimensions of human existence. I wrote two papers about this subject, and I teach a course on these three dimension in the faculty of humanities in Tel Aviv University. In the presence year, I established a Forum of lecturers from psychoanalysis and philosophy that try to think together about these issues.

The question of movement between the self and its otherness also brought me to invesrigate the philosophy of otherness (like Levinass or Derida). Combing this work with the psychoanalytic approach of Winnicott and Bion I developed a model of thinking which I refers to as "The psychoanalysis of Surrender". I teach, lecture and publish about it (see publication, courses and selected lectures list).
