I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Bar-Ilan University and a licensed clinical psychologist in Israel. I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology at Bar-Ilan University, followed by postdoctoral training in clinical research and data science at the University of Haifa and in adolescent depression at Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital.

My research program examines how emotional processes shape the onset, maintenance, and treatment of depression, with a particular focus on adolescence as both a period of heightened risk and an important window for early intervention. I study emotional systems as dynamic processes that unfold within individuals over time. Patterns such as rigidity, inertia, variability, and impaired recovery from stress may reflect vulnerability, while changes in these patterns may provide early indications that a person's emotional system is moving toward depression.

During my doctoral research, I examined emotional change processes within psychotherapy using intensive longitudinal designs and advanced statistical methods. In my first postdoctoral position at the University of Haifa, supported by the Data Science Research Center, I incorporated AI-based facial expression analysis to characterize patient and therapist emotional dynamics and their associations with treatment outcomes. My subsequent work at Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital extended this framework beyond psychotherapy and into the daily lives of adolescents, using ecological momentary assessment, passive smartphone sensing, automated behavioral coding, and natural language processing, including large language models, to capture emotional and behavioral processes as they naturally unfold.

My current research brings affective science, clinical psychology, and artificial intelligence together to develop personalized approaches to the early identification and prevention of depression. Rather than relying only on population-level risk markers or waiting until symptoms cross a diagnostic threshold, I use intensive longitudinal and multimodal data to model each person's typical patterns and identify meaningful within-person deviations. These data may include language, mobility, sleep, social activity, physiology, and momentary reports. I combine dynamical systems models and statistical process control with machine learning and large language models to examine when risk is emerging, for whom, and under what conditions.

Across these projects, I integrate multilevel modeling, dynamical systems approaches, statistical process control, natural language processing, machine learning, and automated behavioral measurement. This work has produced more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and has been recognized through awards and fellowships including the Alfred Pope Award for Early Career Investigators from McLean Hospital, the Most Valuable Paper Award from the Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy, the Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Psychotherapy Research, and the Jonathan Edward Brooking Mental Health Research Scholar Award. I also received the Kaplen Award at Harvard Medical School, granted to one researcher annually across the institution.

A growing direction of my program is the development and evaluation of AI systems that can support timely, personalized intervention. This includes using large language models to interpret structured and unstructured data, integrating information across sensing modalities, and generating clinically meaningful summaries or intervention recommendations.

As I establish my independent research program at Bar-Ilan University, my goal is to connect basic research on emotional dynamics with scalable, clinically responsible AI tools for early identification and intervention. By identifying person-specific changes that precede depression and testing how those signals can guide support in real time, this program aims to advance a more precise, preventive, and process-oriented approach to mental health care.
